China calls for security for ships passing through Strait of Hormuz

Beijing [China], March 4: China has called for security to be ensured in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz amid the US-Israel war with Iran and its regional repercussions.
Energy security is vital for the global economy, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said in Beijing.
All parties should guarantee stable energy supplies, she added. "China will take the necessary measures to safeguard its energy security," Mao said.
The strait between Iran and Oman is one of the world's most important maritime routes. It is the only sea passage connecting the Gulf with the open oceans.
Major oil-producing countries border the Gulf, including Iran, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. The International Energy Agency says nearly 30% of the world's seaborne oil trade passed through the Strait of Hormuz in 2023.
