IICT organises Lucky draw of modern looms for benefit of carpet artisans in Srinagar

Srinagar, March 18 (ANI): Specific lucky draws of hundred modern steel looms were organised in Srinagar. It was organised by the Indian Institute of Carpet Technology (IICT) in collaboration with the Department of Handicrafts and Handloom. This initiative was taken for the benefit of carpet artisans and to replace traditional looms with latest facilities. Large numbers of applicant weavers from various districts were presented and 100 beneficiaries were selected by Designated Committee in a fair and proper manner. Notably, the new modern steel loom has inbuilt detachable seating arrangement with back support with working width of six feet and suitable for carpet weavers. One of the important benefits is that weavers can shift the loom and install it at any other place unlike the traditional wooden looms which were largely immoveable. This developmental step brought cheer to carpet artisans of the valley as they were facing a lot of problems while weaving the carpets on old looms.
