Life of the White Shirt Trio in America

Hanoi [Vietnam], June 6: There are some names that, even after decades away from the stage, still evoke nostalgia in audiences whenever they are mentioned. Tam Ca Áo Trắng (The White Shirt Trio) is one of them.
Over 30 years ago, the three sisters Tuyet Ngan, Minh Thu, and Minh Tu stepped onto the stage with a pure and approachable image, performing songs about school life, family, and hometown. They were not only a famous music group but also became a symbol of family unity in the Vietnamese music scene of the 1990s. Then, while still beloved by the audience, the White Shirt Trio gradually withdrew from the spotlight. Without scandals or tumultuous breakups, the three sisters quietly embarked on different paths: becoming wives, mothers, and building new lives abroad.
Today, after more than two decades away from their homeland, the life of the White Shirt Trio in America is no longer about touring or resounding applause. Instead, it's about family meals, reunions with children and grandchildren, and the simple happiness of seeing loved ones safe and sound.
Unforgettable memories of youth.
Recalling the golden years of the White Shirt Trio, Tuyet Ngan still couldn't hide her emotions. For her, the most beautiful thing wasn't the fame or the packed stages, but the love that family and the public had given to the three sisters throughout their youth.
"It was a beautiful, pure time filled with the love of family and fans for the White Shirt Trio. All of these are wonderful memories that I will never forget," the singer shared.
More than 20 years have passed since the group almost ceased operations, but the songs of Tam Ca Áo Trắng are still remembered by many generations of audiences. This makes the three sisters always feel grateful and appreciative. Perhaps that's why, even though life has changed, they have never considered music as a part of their lives that has ended.
Like many other artists, the journey of settling abroad hasn't always been a bed of roses. Tuyet Ngan admits that her life has had its ups and downs, its difficult times that she prefers not to dwell on.
"There were some shocks I don't want to talk about anymore. It's all in the past now. What I'm always secretly grateful for is that those experiences helped me have a more peaceful and better present," she confided.
Currently, Tuyet Ngan lives in Tennessee. After many years of hard work in business, the singer has a stable life and spends most of her time with her family. On her personal page, she often shares pictures of family gatherings in her spacious house in the US. On holidays, festivals, or special occasions, relatives and friends often gather together, creating a warm and cozy atmosphere that many people admire.
While the stage used to be her source of joy, now her greatest happiness comes from the most ordinary things in life. "My children all have their own plans and futures now. I don't expect them to follow in my footsteps in the arts. I truly have no regrets about dedicating my youth to raising them and watching them grow up every day," Tuyet Ngan confided to us.
While Tuyet Ngan chose a stable life in Tennessee, with her two children now in college, Minh Thu and Minh Tu have taken different paths. Minh Thu currently spends a lot of time traveling back and forth between Vietnam and the US to care for her children who are studying in North Carolina. The singer's eldest son is studying business, while her youngest daughter is in 9th grade; both are very fond of singing and have shown artistic talent since childhood.
After nearly 20 years together, Minh Thu's marriage is still admired by many for its strength and companionship. Meanwhile, Minh Tu has gone through a more challenging journey. The singer raised her son alone after her marriage ended. For a time, she faced immense pressure caring for her son who had a congenital disease. However, all difficulties eventually passed. Currently, Minh Tu is enjoying a peaceful life with her grown-up son, who has graduated from university.
When asked if she still worried about her two younger siblings as much as before, Tuyet Ngan laughed: "Tu and Thu are both over 50 now. They worry about me, not them." Behind that witty answer lies a rare and strong bond. After many years, they still meet regularly for holidays, birthdays, their children's and grandchildren's graduations, and community activities .
Stepping away from the stage doesn't mean giving up music. For Tuyet Ngan, singing is like a part of her blood and flesh. It's just that there were times when she had to temporarily set aside her passion to prioritize her family.
"When my children were young, I kept my passion for singing hidden in a small corner of my heart. Now that they're grown, I've brought it out and rekindled it with songs," she recounted. Currently, the White Shirt Trio mainly participates in community activities, performing at churches or charitable programs. No longer burdened by the pressures of fame or revenue, they sing voluntarily and with the joy of contributing.
"Things may not be the same as they used to be, but if I can do something beautiful for life, something beautiful for morality, help those in need, and contribute to community development, I'm very happy," Tuyet Ngan said.
For the female singer, music now has a different meaning: "If the music of the White Shirt Trio can heal broken hearts, can connect love, then the White Shirt Trio will be there."
Perhaps that is also why, even though they are no longer actively performing, the name Tam Ca Áo Trắng (White Shirt Trio) is still remembered by audiences with special affection.
At over 50 years old, looking back on her journey, what touches Tuyet Ngan the most is not her career successes, but the unwavering affection of her audience after all these years. "I am truly happy and moved by the enduring love that the audience has for the White Shirt Trio. We always cherish and remember that in our hearts," she confided.
